Medical Aid

Care when it’s needed most

When health breaks down, our support must hold firm

Why medical support matters

ReliefAid delivers vital medical aid when conflict destroys access to care. From frontline hospitals in Ukraine to families in Syria and children’s cancer treatments, our programmes save lives.

Conflict devastates healthcare – destroying hospitals, displacing providers, and cutting patients off from critical treatment. This forces patients and medical staff into impossible choices.

  • In Ukraine, more than 1,600 medical facilities have been damaged or destroyed, and hospitals are regularly shelled, disrupting vital health services.
  • Consequently, one in three Ukrainians lacks access to medical care, and many patients, especially with chronic conditions like heart disease or diabetes, have been forced to pause or abandon treatment.
  • Attacks on health infrastructure in both Ukraine and Syria have included landmines planted in hospitals and repeated strikes on clinics and ambulances – a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law.
  • In Syria, years of systematic healthcare targeting have left over 50% of hospitals non-functional and displaced around 70% of medical staff, leading to a catastrophic shortage of care.
  • Travel is expensive in Syria, a one-way trip to a surgical hospital can cost $25, which is roughly 17 times an average person’s daily income.

These realities underscore why ReliefAid’s medical aid is not just vital, it’s lifesaving.
