Abu Muhammad and his family have endured the difficulties of war and displacement. 90% of Gaza’s population has been displaced, often on multiple occasions. Countless families, like Abu Muhammad’s, are now subject to the conditions of displacement camps, crowded with civilians who have lost their entire livelihoods.
Not only do families face the constant threat of bombardment, but also the deprivation of necessities such as clean water, food and hygiene essentials. The loss of Gaza’s infrastructure and the collapse of the economy has made everyday basics unaffordable – prices have soared since the beginning of the war and employment and regular income is almost impossible to come by. Malnutrition and the spread of waterborne disease due to the difficulty of accessing safe and desalinated water are rampant across Gaza.
Abu Muhammad loves Mansaf, a traditional Levant dish made with lamb, rice, and yogurt. However, since the war began, he and his family have not enjoyed this meal, which holds precious memories and stories of the past.

Almost half of Gaza’s population are children, meaning that those who have suffered the heaviest burden of this war are those most at risk. The children of Gaza are facing extreme malnutrition and the psychological impact of mass displacement and bombardment.
Abu Muhammad explains,“[the] little boys remain silent. God help us.”
However, despite these unimaginable circumstances, communities and families, like Abu Muhammad’s, remain steadfast. By supporting our work you can become a source of strength for the people of Gaza.
