In a displacement camp in northern Syria, a young boy named Miteb was among the children still living with the trauma of conflict. Displaced with his family, he struggled with deep behavioural challenges. His world had been shaped by violence, instability, and the absence of care.
At the start, Miteb’s behaviour was difficult. He was angry, disconnected… he had suffered from family fragmentation and lived in a harsh camp environment.
An impossible situation
Then, something began to shift. Miteb joined Bounceback4Syria, a programme designed to support children affected by conflict through play, learning, and resilience themes. Slowly, with the support of his peers and the project team, his behaviour began to change.

He started to open up. He laughed. He participated. By the end of the programme, his behaviour had become good and acceptable. It was a transformation.
This was not just Miteb’s story. It was echoed in dozens of children across camps.
What gives me hope is seeing children like Miteb begin to recover. Their joy, when we arrive at the camp, is immediate. They run toward the car, shouting, smiling – waiting to play.
